What is Spot UV printing on bookmarks?

Spot UV is a high-gloss coating applied to specific areas of your bookmark rather than the entire surface. Think of it as a precision spotlight for your design. Your logo, title, or a key graphic gets a raised, shiny finish that catches light and draws the eye, while the rest of the bookmark stays matte or flat. The contrast between the two finishes is what makes it so effective. It looks premium, feels tactile, and makes your bookmark stand out.

What is a Spot UV mask file and do I need one?

Yes, a mask file is required for Spot UV printing and it is one of the most important parts of getting your order right. A mask file is a separate black and white file that tells the printer exactly where to apply the Spot UV coating. Areas filled in black receive the Spot UV. Areas left white do not.

What file specs do I need for Spot UV bookmark artwork?
  • Format: PDF, AI, PSD, or INDD
  • Resolution: 300 DPI
  • Color Mode: CMYK for the print file. RGB will be converted and colors may shift
  • Bleed: 0.125" on all sides for edge-to-edge designs
  • Safe Zone: Keep all text and logos at least 0.125" inside the trim line
  • Mask File: a separate black and white file indicating Spot UV placement is required

Do you offer a drill hole option?

Yes. You can add a 1/8" or 1/4" drill hole at checkout. This lets you attach your own tassel, ribbon, or cord after delivery. Please note: strings and tassels are not included and must be sourced separately. The 1/4" hole is the better choice for thicker ribbon or decorative cord.
